Magali Molina

2010-11 Recognition Awardee

Pursuing the Dream

Magali is an eighteen-year-old woman who graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City. Magali plans to attend UC Santa Cruz in California and major in Sociology or Psychology.

Magali has contributed an astonishing 1800 hours in service to her community. Her passion for service really shines in her work for the Dream Club, a service organization that addresses the mission of the Dream Act, which is a compassionate response to the needs of certain immigrant communities.

“I realized how much a lack of English prevented (some parents) from communicating with teachers and participating in their children’s education. I became a translator, a tutor, and also a leader in the Dream Club”, shares Magali.

Jane Slater, ELD Department Chair and Dream Club Advisor at Sequoia High School adds, “Magali gives an extraordinary amount of time and energy to try and better the circumstances of those in her community”. Describing Magali’s work in planning an educational conference for the Dream Club’s constituency, Slater adds: “The audience left that evening with the knowledge, enthusiasm, and resources that they need for success.”

College Track Board Member Cynthia Keely adds: “She is a magnet for people who recognize her magnificent drive. She is a well-respected, shining leader who refuses to remain in the shadows.”

Summarizing her passion, Magali says “I just want to prove to everyone that there is hope.”

Magali certainly provides us with great hope. Please join us in recognizing one of the 2010-11 Stephanie Brown Cadet Memorial Foundation Recognition Awardees, Magali Molina.
